Included are the talks from a gathering at Yale in 1991 in honor of Hughes' 70th birthday. Each talk is related to an aspect of Hughes' work, but speakers take their own tack in presenting their view of a particular area of physics and Hughes' role in it. Thus, the reader not only learns of the physics explored by Hughes but gets a glimpse of a group of eminent physicists and their approaches to science. Topics include: history of molecular beam resonance; precise physical measurements; muon g-2 and hyperfine structure; and polarized beams at high energies. The second half of the book is selected publications by Hughes on the topics of atomic and molecular physics, nuclear physics, muonium, and particle physics.
