Single-phase circuits can easily be served from three-phase systems by using the voltage between the two leads of a three-phase, three-wire ... three power leads are connected to a three-phase induction motor and the motor turns in one direction; this is an in-phase system. If you interchange the connection of any two of these three motor leads, the motor will then run in the opposite direction; this is an out-of-phase system. Actually, what you have done is reverse the phase sequence.
