This paper examines project execution risk oversight in relation to the staff size, budget size, and the emphasis of federal government oversight by the Government Accountability Office. As the US federal government plans for its 2007 fiscal year, nearly $65 billion have been requested for 2007 Information Technology projects (H.R., 2005). The importance of making correct strategic decisions affects the delivery of services. In the case of the federal government, Information Technology is embedded in the business processes. This research indicates that there is a weak linkage between oversight and the amount of resources that may be at risk.
