Comfort Me With Apples, the adventures of the Hammond family in the rural south during the great depression of the nineteen thirties, through the eyes of a young girl with the name of Dundee. Each chapter deals with a particular problem facing the family, for instance, the child finds unconditional love for an imperfect father, the family rescues their cousin from a mental hospital, a sister is bitten by a rattlesnake and is saved by Bob, a tramp who came by the Hammond home place for a meal and stayed through two summers, and a woman with the sad name of aRainy Daya who walked from Arkansas to meet her fate in Wisteria, Mississippi.
