The second project focused more on the polydiacetylene materials made by the host-guest strategy. Poly(deca-4, 6-diynedioic acid), a polydiacetylene soluble in both dimethyl sulfoxide and water, was successfully prepared and characterized. The solubility of this conjugated polymer allows the accurate determination of the molecular weight and polydispersity of the polydiacetylenes made by the host-guest strategy for the first time. These results also demonstrate that polydiacetylene materials with better quality can be synthesized by the host-guest strategy in comparison to any other methods seen in literature.
