Significant in this regard is the diversity of fype in netsuke. lt appears that the averagely affluent townsman would have owned several pieces ... A host of known pieces are clearly intended for times of organised celebration, to be worn at weddings or assorted felicitous events; (cranes or turtles, cat. nos. 200-209, which are said to live one thousand and ten thousand years, would be appropriate themes).
