The Volkswagen 01M transmission is a hydraulic four-speed automatic transmission, developed by JATCO qJapanese Automatic Transmission Company, q and deployed in Cabrio, Jetta, Golf, GTI, New Beetle, and transverse engine Passat cars manufactured between 1995 and 2002.It is a torque converter-based transmission with lockup clutch. It does not have provision for a dipstick. It has since been replaced by an Aisin designed 6-speed automatic transmission, as well as a Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG) based dual clutch transmission in recent models of the above cars.
